27th-May-2014 01:37 pm - Books every TOS fan should have
I don’t believe I’ve seen these books mentioned here, so I’ll give it a go (and I’ll add that I will be repeating this recommendation elsewhere—in case you run into it again. <g>)

These are the Voyages: TOS - By Mark Cushman, with Susan Osborn
Season One
Season Two

As described on the back cover:
"In the 1980s Gene Roddenberry and Robert H. Justman gave Marc Cushman permission to write the definitive history of the first Star Trek. They backed their stamp of approval by providing documentation never before shared with the public. These are the Voyages, published in three volumes - one designated for each season of TOS - will take you back in time and put you into the producers' offices, the writers' room, onto the soundstages, and in front of your TV sets for the first historic broadcasts. Included are hundreds of memos between Roddenberry and his staff, production schedules, budgets, fan letters, behind-the-scenes images, and the TV ratings, documenting the making of each episode of the "Classic 79" in staggering detail. Buckle your seat belts, the trek of a lifetime begins here."

I’ve been reading books and articles, and watching documentaries and videos, about the making of Star Trek ever since . . . well, since I bought my copy of “The Making of Star Trek” (Roddenberry and Whitfield) some 44 years ago. So I’ve always felt pretty comfortable in my “behind the scenes” and “making of “knowledge about this beloved series.

Until I read these books.

I’ve been amazed at, not just the new facts, but also the new insights I have gained into the thoughts and processes of the many talents (and egos) involved in creating this landmark series. Each volume provides hundreds of information-packed pages on each single season. I strongly recommend them to any and all fans of the original series.

The first volume was issued in hardback and then in paperback. The second volume is out now in hardback, but I presume the paperback will follow. The third volume is pending.

You can read more about the books, and purchase them, at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/These-Are-The-Voyages-Season-ebook/dp/product-description/B00H2RPG8U/ref=dp_proddesc_0?ie=UTF8&n=283155&s=books

On a related note, I had previously read and enjoyed Mr. Cushman’s book about “I Spy” (which was one volume to cover all three seasons), so I can recommend that book as well.

Um, I know nothing about "tags," Madam Moderator, so if what I have added are not what is needed perhaps you can oblige with any corrections. I would be grateful.  <g>

CAPTAIN’S LOG: Stardate: Whatever. An outpost let us know that they are being destroyed. When we got there we got our asses blown up because they are being destroyed. Made sure to have at least one redshirt on landing party to draw fire, but still jumped through explosion because it makes me look manly. Spock had forgotten how to dialogue and Uhura is practicing her rehearsal for that horror movie they are filming in engineering. My disappearance made Sulu gravitate towards my chair. I am suspicious, but must fight a guy in a bad dinosaur suit who is throwing rocks at me. At some point, the future took a wrong turn and is now moving in the opposite direction, except the dinosaur has a microphone and Spock is still not helpful. I appear to have gained super not-dying powers. It is possible that ultimately I might lose my shirt.

After almost 4 years, I present to you...

29th-Oct-2013 08:42 am - Does Anyone Know this Author....?
It's rare for me to find a new-to-me author of TOS fanfic and I came across this archive. I sampled a few stories and absolutely loved the quality of the writing. I wanted to drop the author a note to let them know how much I enjoyed the tales and to ask about a few unfinished ones, but there is no contact button. That's kinda strange. I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with this archive and/or the author?

Pairings(s): Jim Kirk/Spock
Rating:R
Warnings:mild slash

Description: Carbon Pencil Drawing

Note I decided to post this piece in the aftermath of the rockin' time I had at this year's Shoreleave. Yes, I FINALLY got my chance to meet, greet and be photographed with William Shatner so I'm all happy. If I have time, I want to embed an ep from the newest Star Trek episode too 'cause I thought it was pretty darn good!

This is a zine art piece featuring Jim and Spock, and a bit of the Enterprise for good measure.

Disclaimer: Don't own it. Just having some fun.
Summary: AOS!Uhura and TOS!Uhura each find themselves thrust into the other's dimension.
Notes: It would probably be super helpful to have already read Season One: Generations, but I'm going to try and make these stories as stand-alone as I possibly can. That being said, if you don't wish to read Generations, you should be all right if you just read its epilogue, The End Has No End, which is the lead-in to Dimensions. **This fic is also available @ FF.NET**

(Time, Spock reflected, has a curious dichotomy. There were moments when there seemed to be so much time that the scope of it stretched beyond reason, and other moments when time seemed so scant that the very idea of it ceased to have meaning. The seventy-seven seconds which passed between Spock exitting the bridge with the captain and the two of them arriving at the transporter room each took on the characteristics of full years. The same could be said for the two hundred and twenty-three seconds it took for his wife to finally materialize on the second transporter pad from the left. By contrast, the five point four seconds it took for him to realize that the person on the pad was not, in fact, his wife passed in such a minuscule period as to make him unsure they had ever happened at all....)

22nd-Feb-2012 10:43 pm - fic: and a rope
Title: and a rope
Author: windfallswest
Fandom: Star Trek: the Original Series
Pairing: James Tiberius Kirk/Spock
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: <----
Length: about 3k
Notes: Also at AO3. A sort of interstitial episode-fic for Shore Leave. This somehow came out as the least crack-toned crack!fic ever. A little fluff for htebazytook, my beta reader and general minion, on the occasion of her birthday. Title, because my dad got the Bonanza song* stuck in my head and there are literally no other words in there right now. Sadly for you.
Summary: Just don't tell Bones about the horse.

Finnegan!

*For those of you fortunate enough not to know, the full lyric is, with a gun and a rope and a hat full of hope.

TOS Tarsus Fic? I've enjoyed my share of Reboot stories, but I don't seem to be coming across any TOS ones. Any links to some would be deeply appreciated. And if there are none...LOVE for a talented author out there to blass us all with one! : )

Title: She Gives Me the Stars
Author: windfallswest
Fandom: Star Trek: The Original Series
Pairing: James Tiberius Kirk/Spock
Rating: NC-17
Disclaimer: <----
Length: a bit over 2K
Summary: His meditations are, quite predictably, interrupted only three hours in.
Notes: Also at AO3. Post Amok Time, i.e. Pon Farr fic. Spoilers. I've been informed by my beta, the redoubtable htebazytook, that I stole the title line from L. Dylan Christopher's poem dream girl. While this is completely untrue, through some quirk of synchronicity it is a very Kirk/Spock (well, Kirk/Spock/Enterprise) sort of poem.

Cross-posted to trek_slash, kirkspock, spock_kirk, classic_trek, and trekslash. It seems I'm being thorough today.

Before Leonard can respond, Spock has nodded and left the room, and Leonard is left alone, hands still clutching the side of his desk. He covers his face for a moment, and tries to regain his composure, cursing both himself and that mirror universe. He’s a doctor. He knows how trauma works. He should be able to deal with this.
